Eleven-year-old Preston thinks he knows what to expect from an ordinary afternoon. Then a shaggy white dog named Bowie comes sliding down a rainbow and turns his world upside down.
Margaret Renda Adler is a grandmother and storyteller whose greatest inspiration comes from her family, especially her grandchildren. Their curiosity, laughter, and imagination have shaped the stories she loves to create, including the adventure that became The Secret Adventures of Preston and Bowie: Daniel Boone’s Cabin.
Her work is rooted in a simple belief: childhood should leave room for wonder. Through storytelling, Margaret hopes to celebrate family, encourage imagination, and create the kind of reading experience children can carry with them long after the final page.
Preston thinks he knows his world. He knows school, video games, his neighborhood, his best friend Shep, and the animals he has always believed understand him better than most people do. Then Bowie arrives.
The shaggy white dog appears through a brilliant Rainbow Bridge and brings with him the first clue that Preston’s ordinary world may be hiding something extraordinary. Blending fantasy, humor, friendship, outdoor adventure, and historical curiosity, The Secret Adventures of Preston and Bowie: Daniel Boone’s Cabin gives young readers a story to enjoy and families a story worth talking about.
